Holiday Slipping Away

As this holiday weekend slips away into photo albums seldom to be looked upon again, I wonder how many took the time to contemplate the American military people who have given their time, their health, or even their lives so we can enjoy freedom.

Probably not many found the time during their partying, trips, swimming, and other recreations. That is more than sad. That is dangerous. People are neither taking the time to learn for themselves nor teaching their children the value and the cost of freedom.

If our people do not value freedom, if they are not willing to even take the time to honor the people who DIED to give it to them, the vigilance required to forestall the slipping away of our freedoms will also be ignored.

Each of us should be aware of what is happening in our country. We should be willing to stand up for our rights and freedom, or we will lose them; they'll slip away when we are too busy to be vigilant -- too busy to make ourselves heard, too busy to vote.

OofDah, hold to your freedoms; don't let them slip away!

Memorial Day Remembrance

As I Stood Among the Crosses

As I stood among the crosses
Contemplating war's terrible losses
The whispered prayers among the trees
Brought me humbly to my knees

For these prayers the dead were giving
And they were praying for the living:
"Hold! Protect your freedom!
For this our lives are done

"Allow not inroads on our gain
Or our lives were spent in vain
With this sacred duty we charge all:
Make sure your freedoms do not fall

Some must always fight and die
Others serve a different battle cry
'Death, death! to infringing policy!
To keep this, your great land, free!'

All, all! Go forth! Defend!
Upon you, you! we depend
That from death we may proclaim
We did not die in vain!"

As I knelt among the crosses
I understood they marked not only losses
But, also, freedom's mighty gains
And I prayed that all take up the reins

Of vigilance, of freedom's fight
And demand, demand! the right
Of freedom -- to validate the losses
Marked by these small white crosses.

God bless all who died for our freedom. Amen.

I didn't read it.

Why all this foolishness over the Sestak case? Why doesn't the administration just plead ignorance?

I think most of us would agree they are.

Or just say, "I didn't read the law."

I think we'd all believe that
  • voting on a law they hadn't read and
  • passing judgement on a law they hadn't read
  • is probably proof that breaking a law they hadn't read

is quite credible.

Poor Blago

Remember Blago? Why was he thrown to the wolves? Poor guy.

His allegations that we'd learn something interesting if they'd release ALL the recorded conversations seem more and more substantial, don't they?

Of course, we all knew that his wasn't an isolated case in the Chicago political game AND that he wasn't the only player in the Obama seat case.

Do you think we could demand a release of all the recordings? I'd like to hear them, wouldn't you?
Do you think recordings of the Sestak proposition are also available? I think we need to hear those, as well.

OofDah! Poor Blago! Why is he the only one to be punished for this sort of crime? Shouldn't they set up a special court to handle all the cases? Shouldn't they install a revolving door on that court?

Mex pres out of line?

Should the Mex pres press the US to support their masses? Should he tell us to expose ourselves to the drug dealers, criminals, and terrorists border crossers without enforcing our laws? Should he look to Mex's own immigration practices before denigrating ours?

How do you say OofDah in Mexico?

Just Plug the Damn Hole!

So everyone in the entire world now knows our president uttered the words, "Just plug the damn hole!"

Quiz - what was he talking about?
  • The oil disaster
  • Joe Biden's mouth
  • Glenn Beck's mouth
  • James Carville's mouth
  • Bill O'Reilly's mouth
  • His own pie hole

The Whole Truth

I recently finished The Whole Truth authored by David Baldacci. It made a deep impression on me. Contrary to what the title may conjure, this is more about untruth than truth. It is about hiring a perception manager, a PM, and through perception management manipulating the world, inciting international armed conflict for profit.

Why did this impress me? Because it can happen, is happening. When our journalists become mouthpieces instead of being inquiring investigators, perception management is in effect. When our politicians can say one thing today and the exact opposite next week AND 50% of the people believe them, that is perception management. When someone can throw an absolute lie into the public arena and churn it until half the population is confused as to the truth of the matter, that is perception management.

Perception management is naught but professional lying, and we hear plenty of that every time we turn on the TV. Unfortunately, it is coming from not only our "journalists" but from top elected officials. They lie about their moral behavior, lie about what they have supported and voted for, and lie about what they will support and how they will vote.

If we cannot believe our leaders, how do we decide for whom to vote? We cannot choose strictly by party because both sides lie and lie often, spinning to convince you they are on your side.

Don't you just want to beg for truth?

Tells you we live in the age of PM. Oof dah!

In Merging is Strength

How do we build a unified country that is willing to stand together to protect our freedoms?

Some speak of swallowing up other cultures. That's an inflamatory way to put it. I do think we need to look at the incorporation of other cultures - but, I believe incorporation is a better way to state it than "swallowing up."

I grew up in an area of people of predominately Norwegian background separated by a simple road from an area of people of predominately Polish background.

Unlike the cultural conclaves of today, both groups strived to become American, wanted to become American, and especially wanted their children to be Americans. Even so, there were some clashes, some disrespectful comments, and some children's fights -- misunderstandings due to cultural differences.

But these were not blown out of proportion and into actual harm by parents behaving like idiots. No, these parents expected better from their children and did not allow or encourage the kids to be unaccepting of the differences. And the children, like the parents, WANTED to be Americans. We did not want a small Poland and a small Norway in America. We wanted to be, really be, Americans.

By now, because we wanted it so, it is established that we are all Americans FIRST, the two groups have intermingled and built a unified community so the different groups are no longer physically placed in separate areas. Intermarriage is common and ethnic differences are relegated to good-hearted jokes and wonderful celebrations and customs that are shared and attended by all.

Our small community is an excellent example of incorporation of differences: Polish sausage and lefse are commonly served at the same table; Catholics and Lutherans often pray together; women and men worship and work together.

The almost insurmountable differences of allegiance that kept Polish and Norsk conclaves apart and kept Catholics and Lutherans from accepting one another's faiths -- all due to belief systems and language differences that could have been passed down through generations of teaching the differences rather than emphasizing the similarities -- have been conquered, all melted away in the melting pot of America, because we wanted, really WANTED to be Americans. There are no Polish-Americans or Norwegian-Americans here. No! Just Americans proud to speak American English and communicate effectively with other Americans.

I myself am of Norse background while my husband is of Polish background. It is perfectly acceptable these days. We were even married in a church with both Catholic and Lutheran clergy participating! Not remarkable? Well, when I was a teen, a "mixed marriage" was a disgrace and one could not even be an official witness at a mixed wedding, much less a participant in the oaths.

We in our community do not feel "swallowed up," but rather liberated from cultural differences, thankful that we were allowed to become real Americans, as opposed to hyphenated Americans. (By the way, have you noticed that hyphenated Americans put America second? Is that a way to build a unified country?)

I see no reason why we can't teach Americanism as primary, multi-culturalism as secondary. This is America, after all. This is the place people want to come to.

If they want to make it into the kind of country they ran from, why make the trip? I'm just sayin', if their country was unacceptable, why make this country into the same unacceptable environment? Why not just stay where they were?

Merging is the basis of a strong country; emphasizing Americanism is the basis of a strong country. On the other hand, emphasizing conclaves of people held apart by language and customs is the basis of destabilization; emphasizing differences is the basis of destabilization.

Do we want a strong, unified country or do we want a weak, separatist country that will fall to undesired rule? If we are at odds with each other, how can we stand together to make sure we are governed rather than ruled?

Textbook Vote

The Dallas textbook commission managed a final vote! So the children will be learning about America and its founding fathers. Is this not a good thing?

I have seen some comments on the net deriding and lamenting this decision. Why would that be?

Apparently teaching the facts of the origin of our country is contrary to the ideology of some. Do they want to CHANGE the facts into a fairy story that includes cultures that were not there, did not in fact help shape this country? Do they want to teach the children lies? In my opinion, ideology has no place in the classroom. There's time enough for politics after the children grow up.

(Can you change the facts? I don't think so. Would they not then be lies?)

Teaching our founding fathers should be an important part of teaching our history. Teaching a full, rounded history from facts and truth should also be a part of our social studies. If that leaves out a group or culture, well, this is history not fairy story time. The facts should not be changed to assuage feelings of being left out.

(Again, can you change facts?)

I mean, what if Americans cried out and gnashed their teeth because they wanted to be a part of medieval goings on or a part of the grand old civilizations? Are we going to rewrite that history to include us and make us feel better - even though America was not yet "discovered?" Be real!

Christianity and people of faith were a part of our foundation and an important part of our history. Islam wasn't there. That's a fact. Laws and fairness based on Christian principles were a part of our foundation. Shari'a law, burkas, and stonings were not. Saying so will not make it true.

So let's teach our children the truth -- not opinion, not ideology, not untruths -- teach them our country was founded on great, fervent beliefs. Not just faith in God, but faith in the common people.

Any good teacher can do that without teaching religion, which seems to be one of the worries of the non-believers. Just so, good teachers can also teach about non-believers without teaching non-faith.

If we can't say it, how can we defend against it?

http://

Can you say Oof Dah?

Border Patrol

Are the people of Arizona sacrificial lambs for the rest of the country? Should they just roll over and let the Mexican drug war encroach on their state? Should they look the other way when thousands of people, including criminals, drug dealers, and terrorists overrun their state? Should they calmly accept murders, crime, and drugs addiction as their lot in life?

Hmm, you don't think they should defend themselves from this invasion?

Be ready to defend yourself ---

I suggestion they build a nice superhighway with no turnoffs heading straight to your state. If you don't think the invasion is a problem for Arizona, then you should welcome the drugs, guns, and terrorists in your backyard. And even without the superhighway, you will be feeling the results of the open border. Already the drug cartels claim to have distribution centers in every contiguous state. And already the tax situation is exacerbated by the costs of illegals in this country. And if international terrorists are not coming over the border already, they soon will. They are not stupid and can certainly figure out that an uncontrolled border is a gateway to your state.

Common sense should dictate that US citizens have the right to defend themselves and their children from uncontrolled borders. If the feds don't want to do it, the states MUST.

Let's defend our borders, before a terrorist attack comes across it along with the thousands of people we cannot afford to feed, clothe, and shelter. Let's use some common sense!
